The Freedom Caucus is a caucus of Republican members of the United States House of Representatives. It is generally considered to be the most conservative and furthest-right bloc within the House Republican Conference.

The caucus was formed in January 2015 by a group of conservatives and Tea Party movement members, with the aim of pushing the Republican leadership to the right.

They have been a vocal critic of the Republican establishment and has often clashed with House leadership.

The caucus has also been criticized for its obstructionist tactics and its role in the government shutdown of 2018.

All 33 members of the Freedom Caucus are pro-Trump.

The caucus was formed in 2015, shortly after Trump announced his candidacy for president, and it played a key role in advancing his agenda in Congress.

During the Trump presidency, the Freedom Caucus was one of his most loyal and vocal supporters.

In recent years, the Freedom Caucus has continued to support Trump, even after he lost his bid for re-election in 2020.

Many members of the caucus have echoed Trump's false claims that the election was stolen, and they have supported his efforts to overturn the results.

The Freedom Caucus is a key part of Trump's base of support, and it is likely to continue to play a major role in the Republican Party as long as Trump remains active in politics.

While Mike Johnson is not a member of the Freedom Caucus, but he is considered to be an ally of the group. He shares many of the same views as the Freedom Caucus, and he has often worked with them on legislative issues.

Johnson is a member of the Republican Study Committee, which is another conservative caucus within the House Republican Conference.

He is also the chairman of the Subcommittee on Constitution and Limited Government, which is a key subcommittee for the Freedom Caucus.

Johnson has been a vocal critic of the Republican establishment, and he has often clashed with House leadership. He has also been a strong supporter of Donald Trump.

In the 118th Congress, Johnson is the Chairman of the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, which is investigating the Department of Justice and other federal agencies for alleged abuses of power.

The Freedom Caucus has been supportive of this investigation, and they have said that they believe it is necessary to hold the Biden administration accountable.

Overall, Mike Johnson is a conservative Republican who is closely aligned with the Freedom Caucus. He shares many of the same views as the group, and he has often worked with them on legislative issues.

Some of the most incendiary members of the Freedom Caucus include:

Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA)

Mo Brooks (R-AL)

Brooks is a firebrand conservative who is known for his incendiary rhetoric. He has been a vocal supporter of Trump and has been critical of the 2020 presidential election results.

Louie Gohmert (R-TX)

Gohmert has repeatedly promoted the QAnon conspiracy theory, which falsely claims that a group of Satan-worshipping pedophiles is running the country and that Donald Trump is secretly fighting them.

He has also claimed that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from Trump, despite no evidence to support this claim.

Gohmert has also made anti-vaccine comments, including claiming that vaccines can cause autism.

He has also made Islamophobic comments, such as claiming that Muslims are trying to take over the United States.

Gohmert has claimed that the FBI is a "rogue agency" and that the Department of Justice is "weaponized" against Republicans.

Paul Gosar (R-AZ)

Gosar has shared social media posts that promote violence against Democrats, including a post that featured a photoshopped image of him killing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).

He has also promoted the QAnon conspiracy theory and other conspiracy theories.

Gosar has also made anti-immigrant comments, such as calling for the construction of a wall along the entire US-Mexico border and for the deportation of all undocumented immigrants.

He has also made Islamophobic comments, such as claiming that Muslims are trying to take over the United States.

Gosar has claimed that the January 6th attack on the US Capitol was a "false flag" operation carried out by left-wing extremists.

Bob Good (R-VA)

He has also claimed that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from Trump, despite no evidence to support this claim.

Steube has claimed that the FBI is a "deep state" agency that is trying to undermine Trump.

Greg Steube (R-FL)

Steube has also promoted the QAnon conspiracy theory and other conspiracy theories.

He has also made anti-immigrant comments, such as calling for the construction of a wall along the entire US-Mexico border and for the deportation of all undocumented immigrants.

Steube has also made Islamophobic comments, such as claiming that Muslims are trying to take over the United States.

He has also been criticized for his incendiary comments about COVID-19, including comparing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to the Nazis.

Tom Tiffany (R-WI)

Tiffany has also promoted the QAnon conspiracy theory and other conspiracy theories.

He has also made anti-immigrant comments, such as calling for the construction of a wall along the entire US-Mexico border and for the deportation of all undocumented immigrants.

Tiffany has also made Islamophobic comments, such as claiming that Muslims are trying to take over the United States.

He has also been criticized for his incendiary comments about COVID-19, including claiming that the vaccine is a "bioweapon."

Tiffany has claimed that the Biden administration is "socialist" and is trying to destroy the country.

These comments have been widely condemned by Democrats and some Republicans, who have accused them of spreading misinformation and inciting violence.

As an old-school conservative, I am appalled by the Freedom Caucus and its impact on the Republican Party and the United States as a whole. The Freedom Caucus is a group of far-right Republicans who are known for their obstructionist tactics and their unyielding support for Donald Trump.

The Freedom Caucus has played a key role in the Republican Party's shift away from the principles of William F. Buckley, who believed in limited government, fiscal responsibility, and individual liberty. Instead, the Freedom Caucus embraces big government, economic populism, and social conservatism.

They have also been a major obstacle to bipartisanship and compromise. In recent years, the caucus has repeatedly blocked important legislation, including bills to fund the government, raise the debt ceiling, and address climate change.

The Freedom Caucus's obstructionism has led to government shutdowns and other crises. In 2018, the caucus helped to trigger a 35-day government shutdown, which cost the US economy billions of dollars and caused widespread hardship.

The unyielding support for Trump is also a major problem. Even after Trump's defeat in the 2020 election, the Freedom Caucus has continued to spread lies and disinformation about the election. The caucus has also defended Trump's attempts to overturn the election results, even though those efforts were illegal and undemocratic.

The Freedom Caucus is a threat to the Republican Party and the United States as a whole. The caucus's extremism, obstructionism, and support for Trump are undermining the country's democracy and its economy.

What can be done?

Concerned Republicans must stand up to the Freedom Caucus and its allies. They must insist on a return to the principles of William F. Buckley and the Republican Party of old. They must also be willing to work with Democrats to find common ground and solve the country's problems.

The Republican Party needs to be a party of ideas, not a party of obstruction. It needs to be a party that is willing to compromise and work with others. The Republican Party also needs to be a party that respects democracy and the rule of law.

If the Republican Party wants to have a future, it must reject the Freedom Caucus and its extremism. The Republican Party must return to its roots as a party of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and individual liberty.
