Question: Mr Buddha, if you dropped a raw steak into a place where it would enter the Earths atmosphere, would it be cooked on entry?

It is possible for a raw steak to be cooked by entering the Earth's atmosphere, but it is not guaranteed. The steak would need to enter the atmosphere at a high enough speed and at a steep enough angle in order to heat up enough to cook. The exact speed and angle required would depend on the mass and shape of the steak.

When an object enters the atmosphere, it experiences a rapid increase in pressure and temperature due to adiabatic compression. This is the same process that causes meteorites to heat up and glow as they enter the atmosphere. The steak would also experience this process, and if it entered the atmosphere at a high enough speed, the temperature would rise high enough to cook it.

However, there are a few factors that could prevent the steak from cooking. First, the steak would need to be exposed to the atmosphere for a sufficient amount of time in order to heat up. If it entered the atmosphere at a very steep angle, it would only spend a short amount of time in the atmosphere and would not have enough time to cook.

Second, the steak would need to be able to conduct heat well. If the steak is very thin, it may not be able to conduct heat from the outside to the inside quickly enough to cook evenly.

Finally, the steak would need to be protected from the wind. The wind could carry away the heat from the steak, preventing it from cooking.

Overall, it is possible for a raw steak to be cooked by entering the Earth's atmosphere, but it is not guaranteed. The success of cooking the steak would depend on a number of factors, including the speed, angle, and shape of the steak, as well as the amount of time it spends in the atmosphere.

In addition to the cooking effects, the exposure to the atmosphere would also have other effects on the steak. The oxygen in the air would react with the myoglobin in the steak, causing it to turn bright red. The steak would also lose moisture, becoming drier and tougher.

So, if you are looking to cook a steak by dropping it from the sky, be prepared for a steak that is cooked unevenly, dry, and tough.

Thanks for the interesting question!
